Toybox - let the street children live

Toybox Posada Festival

What is a Posada?

Posada is a Spanish word which means “Inn”. Posada celebrations originated in South America where two young people are chosen to represent Mary and Joseph. They go from house to house telling the people about the imminent arrival of Jesus and asking if they will give Him a room. Traditionally, the answer is ‘yes’, and they then stay at that house for the night, moving on to another home the next night and so on, throughout Advent. On Christmas Eve, along with others from the village they re-enact
a community play based on the Nativity.

A modern equivalent is based on this concept but encourages people to give a home to the wooden nativity figures of Mary and Joseph for a night. Each night throughout Advent the figures travel from family to family and this symbolises making room for Jesus in our lives, homes and communities.

The posada encourages people to think about the meaning of Christmas and to share the message with neighbours. On Christmas Eve, the final destination for the figures could be your local church and form part of the Christmas service celebrating the birth of Jesus.

The Toybox Gifts range includes a special wooden Posada nativity set, sold in aid of street children who are homeless, like Jesus Christ at His birth.
The Toybox Posada set costs £19.95. Using it carries a very special meaning. You can order here
