(July 2010) A national competition to find the Young Global Education Ambassadors for 2011 is now open to schoolchildren in the UK. The winners will have the opportunity to visit Bolivia in February 2011 with the charity Toybox and the Global Campaign for Education.
(June 2010) 150 people have died and more than 64,000 are homeless, after a series of devastating natural disasters hit Guatemala last week. The events have gone largely unreported in the UK national news, but unless emergency action is taken, the disasters could result in hundreds of children living on the streets of Guatemala City.
(May 2010) Saturday 8th May saw the very first Toybox conference take place, with hosts Adrian and Bridget Plass and special guest Joel Edwards of Micah Challenge. 140 people attended the conference, the theme of which was ‘Stepping Up and Reaching Out’.
(March 2010) A country of only 6.2 million people, El Salvador means ‘Land of the Saviour’. But, as Toybox have discovered, it is very far from heaven for many children. Adrian and Bridget Plass recently travelled to the capital city San Salvador to discover more.
(January 2010) Looking for a way to burn off Christmas calories? The Toybox Cycle challenge could be the answer. This August 14th – 16th 2010 you could be part of a team of 50 riders pedaling 150 miles from Whitehaven in the Lake District to Newcastle, following the route of Hadrian’s famous wall. (Nov 2009) Last Friday over a thousand individuals and organisations, including hundreds of Christians, demanded the rights of street children to be realised on the day that the nations promised to protect children’s rights.
(October 2009) A brand new refuge for street children, established by the Christian charity Toybox, opened its doors to children last month in Bolivia. Emily Fyson went to meet them for herself. She shares some of her thoughts here. The new refuge for street children has been two years in the making here at Toybox, and it opened its doors to the first batch of children in September 2009.
(August 2009) The Christian charity Toybox, is excited to announce the arrival (and departure) of Teddy Gulliver. Gulliver is a special bear who can be bought on all EasyJet flights this summer. The best bit of news is that every Gulliver bought between July and September 2009 will benefit street children in Latin America, thanks to Easyjet who are donating 10% of all profits from Gulliver to the work of Toybox with street children.
(June 2009) A recently published report has revealed that one child is abandoned in Guatemala City every four days – and over three quarters of them are new-born babies*. As a charity that is called to rescue street children in Latin America, Toybox is deeply concerned about their future.
