Latin America & UK
Speaking out
Toybox is passionate about speaking out for street children. Globally we seek to be an advocate for them and champion their cause. From Latin America to the UK and across the world, we are working at every level to get the voices of street children heard.
By taking part in political debate, constantly sending out our message and working alongside other agencies championing the cause, Toybox is campaigning in the UK to make sure the rights of street children are upheld and their voices heard.
Changing minds in Latin America
Toybox recognises the importance of reducing the factors which lead to children taking to a life on the streets. This means changing government policies and practice, communities and families so that they become child-friendly.
In Latin America, street children are often thought of as vermin - disposable and unwanted. Toybox and our local partners are trying to change this, an essential part of which is the voice of the children themselves. By working alongside the local governments and officials, we are also striving to ensure that governments protect children.
Toybox representatives are building relationships with local governments to raise awareness of street children and the issues they face, and to call for policies to protect them.
Toybox projects work with whole families as well as children, conducting workshops about good treatment of children, parental relationships, rights and responsibilities. By helping adults build relationships with their children, teams are able to reach local communities and groups to communicate with them the importance of mutual respect and care.
The children themselves are also calling for change. Toybox Child Ambassadors are going out and meeting with community members and governments to talk to them about child rights and the good treatment of children.
